Richa Chadha – Bio
Richa Chadha is a Bollywood actress who has worked in a number of films but still have not received much of a commercial actress. But she has been always praised for her roles and acting critically.
Richa was born in 18th December, 1986 in Amritsar, Punjab. She was born to a Punjabi father and a Bihari mother. She belong to a very simple family. Her father is the owner of a management firm whereas her mother is a professor at PGDAV college of Delhi University. She has also authored two books and is presently working with Gandhi Smriti. Richa has been born and brought up in Delhi. She did her schooling from Sardar Patel Vidyalaya in 2002 and then she did a diploma in Social Communication Media from Sophia College, Mumbai.
Richa Chadha – Career
Richa Chadha started her career while working as a model and later she moved to theatre. She has performed a number of tours in India and Pakistan. Later in her career she also received training under Barry John.
Richa Chadha made her acting debut as a supporting role in Dibakar Banerjee’s film Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! The movie hit the theatres in 2008 and her role was widely appreciated. Rajeev Masand, the well-known critic referred her as the find of Indian cinema.
Later she was also seen in a comedy film which released in 2010 and which was called as Benny and Babloo as Fedora. In this movie also her role was quite appreciated and someone referred her as the fine support to the movie. She has also been part of Kannada movie in the same year Nirdoshi. And for some reason the movie was delayed but it finally released after a long gap of 3 years. This were the initial struggling years in Bollywood.
But she finally got noticed by the masses in the year 2012. She was seen in Anurag Kashyap’s direction Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 1. The movie was all about the initial power and struggle of the coal mines of India. Richa was seen playing the role of Nagma Khatoon in the movie. She was highly appreciated for her role in the movie. The film was premiered at 65th Cannes Film Festival and the actor was appreciated everywhere.
Richa Chadha was also seen in the sequel movie Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 2. Here she continued with her role as Nagma Khatoon and the movie went on to premier at Cannes Director Fortnight at Cannes Film Festival. The movie became the milestone in her career and she later said in an interview that this movie helped her to get 11 roles later.
Recently she was seen in Fukrey sequel. She was also a part of the Fukrey original movie which released in the year 2013. She was essaying the role of Bholi Punjaban in the movie. and her acting and performance earned rave reviews all throughout the sector and even among the masses. But Inspite of all this she has been a part of very few commercial mainstream movies. Her role as a supporting actor in Goliyon ki Rasleela – Ram Leela has been her only stint of mainstream movie.
Richa Chadha – Awards
Richa Chadha has won a Filmfare critics award for the best actress for her role in Gangs of Wasseypur. For Gangs of Wasseypur she has won numerous awards. She has also received recognition in Screen awards and star Guild awards for Fukrey. She has also tasted critical success for her movie Masaan. And for this movie she has also won a Stardust awards. Richa Chadha is one of the best actress that the industry has to offer but unfortunately the lady has not yet tasted commercial success yet.
